Status Updates

  • Preliminary mAEWing1 aircraft data, structural model, and aerodynamic model uploaded to git repositories
    • FEM model was validated against BFF GVT data; however, torsional modes for this model are known to be inaccurate
      • The structural model also has known, small inaccuracies in the aircraft inertias
      • A structural model update is planned soon to fix the torsional modes and inertias
    • DLM model was validated against a DLM model used by the German Aerospace Center (DLR)
      • DLR’s DLM code was validated with flight data, so we have confidence in the validity of our DLM software
  • Dave Schmidt has preliminary aerodynamic coefficients, linear models, and IFAC control laws, will upload to git repositories
  • UMN will upload simulation and nonlinear dynamics model soon
  • Wind tunnel testing in work to validate steady aerodynamic coefficients
  • Next step is to develop preliminary control laws for mAEWing1
  • John Bosworth would like to start engineering working group meetings twice per month to discuss aeroelastic aircraft modeling and control law design
    • Agreed that Wednesdays at 1600 and Thursdays at 1000 or 1400 central time would work for these meetings
    • UPDATE: this meeting is scheduled for Nov 13 at 1000 central time
